don't worry be happy!!

OK so I was thinking about what Dave had written on his blog, about the book 'Independents day', you see, he had written down a passage from the book which, If I remember rightly had ended with an image of a neon sign, a sign that simply read “NO”. Now Dave was some how struck with this sign in relation to his work. It jumped up at him as it where, and like all good work, Dave's thoughts on the subject had made me stop look and listen. So there I was the other night, just about to go out, when suddenly, I started thinking about the neon “No” sign again. It must have popped into my head just as I had picked up Chloe's copy of “They Called Her Styrene” by Ed Ruscha. I flicked through the pages. Looking at the pictures printed on the page, one after the other, I was struck with the relentlessness of it all, I mean, I had no idea what it was all about or how Ruscha had come to arrive at drawing and painting words, but for some reason, I was interested. I mean, they had something, what that something was I was not sure of yet, but it had hooked me and I wanted to think and write about it. So I turned to Chloe and told her that I was going to take the book with us around to Becca and Chris's, you see we had been invited to go around there for a drink, so anyway Chloe immediately says “no”, and I am like, “but I am an artist (said for effect!!) and I need to work, this is work, you are stopping an artist from working!! To which Chloe replied “you are not taking that book around to Becca and Chris's it would be rude”, “But they won't mind” I said “and even if they did, screw it, that's what its all about isn't it? Strike while the Iron is hot and all that? Never mind being rude, Its about making the work, no matter what, and I can't believe that you would be happy that my work was being stopped or that you would want to stop it” to which she repeated “It would be rude to take that book around to Becca and Chris's, and yes I am quite happy about it” At this point I was like “I see, that's Interesting” you see I had suddenly caught sight of another thought, I mean another idea had sprung into my head and I was like “A-HA!! you have just given me an idea” and Chloe said “see I inspire you to work!!”
